The bedroom, it could be argued, is the main room in the home. The kitchen and dining room and living room aren’t as essential- you can eat or entertain outside the house, but there is only one place you can sleep at night: your own bedroom. And the centerpiece in any bedroom is, of course, the modern platform bed. Over the course of the centuries the Western concept of a bed has remained the same: a raised surface upon which a softer mattress is placed.
Traditionally, beds were composed of a soft mattress on a box spring foundation: a solid platform that goes all the way to the floor with springs inside, with a metal frame to give it its shape. So, essentially traditional beds were comprised of a mattress on top of another mattress. The seemingly comfortable nights sleep is out shadowed by them being extremely bulky and heavy.
With the rising prices of real estate, though, many people now have smaller bedrooms. The bed, as a piece of modern bedroom furniture, has evolved to meet the requirements of the modern man. Space limitations have turned the bed into an alternative storage area. And at a time when storage space is a premium, modern platform beds provide an ideal solution with the storage platform bed.
Its structure makes the modern platform bed a good choice for smaller bedrooms. A frame supports a series of slats made of wood or metal, which in turn support the mattress. And because these slats take up less space while providing the same comfort, there is a lot of room for storage under the bed.
Some beds take the storage capacity to a whole new level by incorporating shelves and drawers into the bed itself. This frees up space in the rest of the bedroom that would have been used for storage. And its simpler construction lets furniture designers give more variety to modern platform bed styles: from modern, simple platform beds to Asian-style platforms with Japanese tatami mats. There are many options open for anyone in the market for a new bed – these new options, without sacrificing a good night’s sleep, makes the platform bed the logical, comfortable choice.

Renovating a bathroom can be a frustrating experience, especially if you’re on a tight budget or don’t have any idea on how to go about it. Instead of spending a fortune on changing everything from wallpapers and tiles to shower curtains and towel holders, why not give your bathroom a simple yet interesting face-lift by installing or replacing bath vanities.
Now that you’ve found a way to work around your budget, it’s time to settle on selecting and purchasing a vanity that strikes a harmony between appearance and purpose. Choosing a modern bathroom vanity that not only gives your bathroom a regal bearing but also serves as storage space is not a walk in the park. The answer to this puzzle is simple if you are cognizant of what you need and the way to acquire it.
Which is better; a functional or elegant looking vanity? A medicine chest is certainly practical, very convenient for storing small items usually found in the bath like a box of dental floss and tubes of toothpaste and shaving gel, but does it have a role in your renovation plans for your bathroom?
At the other end of the spectrum, there are vanities that may hide slight imperfections in your bathroom’s appearance. A double sink vanity is excellent for a large shower room, lending it an exquisite charm. A sink vanity, however, consumes quite a bit of space, which is why you should only install one if it answers your need for both form and function.
If floor space is a major consideration, a hanging vanity may be the perfect choice. These bathroom vanities leave just enough space for other bath fixtures like magazine racks and fancy garbage bins. If you can do without the extra floor space, floor cabinets may do the trick of revitalizing your bathroom.
Before you decide with finality on what type of bath vanities your bathroom needs, make sure you have sifted through as many possibilities as possible, both online and offline. At the end of the day, however, it matters not what you choose as long as you end up with something that’s visually appealing, conforms with the interior design, functions as storage for various bathroom essentials, and fits in the budget you have prepared, but more than anything: is something that you like and wont mind looking at for many years to come.
Are you planning to refurbish your home’s bathroom? Here’s a more affordable solution to replacing everything but the sink – change the bath vanities and you change the way the bathroom looks without spending a fortune. If you own a small bath, try sprucing it up with a modern sink vanity. Bigger bathrooms, however, may benefit more from a double sink vanity, which lends an exquisite appeal to any bath.

Wicker is known for its dynamic characteristics, which makes it a good addition for the home, but has long been popularly used as an outdoor fixture such as an outdoor wicker sofa.
The art of weaving furniture from vines and stems is perhaps the oldest form of craft in the world. The history of such craftsmanship dates back from thousands of years ago, and is still apparent today in the form of wicker. Wicker is not a particular material in itself, but a category of furnishing woven from a variety of rigid materials including plastic fibers.
Wicker has been used throughout the ages. It has never seized to harness the imagination of designers, and has long been appreciated for its ability to tell stories of all sorts; from whimsy to comfort, from fashion to durability. Due to these, wicker remains a timeless piece that has long been encapsulated in varying furnishings such as resin wicker dining sets or wicker sofa. However, as with any other outdoor furnishings, wicker furniture of any kind should be cleaned and maintained accordingly to preserve its aesthetics; below are some simple tips that you can do to clean your wicker furniture.
As wicker fixtures are often used as outdoor pieces, such as an outdoor wicker sofa, dust and other particles can easily invade their nooks and crannies. To avoid this from happening, dust off your wicker furniture about twice a week with a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush. This way, the dust will not settle in the crevices of the furniture, ruining the aesthetic appeal.
Another way to clean your outdoor wicker sofa is to wash it regularly, especially if it is woven from plastic fibers. Combine at least 2 tablespoons of ammonia in a gallon of water, this will serve as your cleaning agent. Wash the fixture quickly and never over saturate it in the solution as this can affect its color. If you don’t have ammonia available, there are also other commercial cleaning products in the market specially made for wicker pieces.
Of course, wicker patio furniture pieces like resin wicker dining sets are often used whenever there are visitors or family gatherings; hence, they are subject to over usage. over usage could eventually lead to a change in alignment of the wicker weave. If this happens, even out the spacing of the weaves, otherwise the uneven spacing could result in the incapability to hold heavy weights. Likewise, as wicker dining sets are utilized during meals, every once in a while your guests will spill liquids and other food items on them. If this happens, immediately wipe the spill with a clean cloth dampened in a detergent, and wipe it once again with a dry cloth to remove residue.
Always take into account that outdoor wicker furniture or any forms of wicker furnishings are susceptible to extreme conditions as well as humidity. Dry conditions can dry out wicker furnishings and cause them to become fragile, high humidity causes mildew and mold build ups, while consistent exposure to sunlight and rain can shorten the life of your furniture. To prevent the early wear out of your wicker pieces, place them on your covered patio or porch. Also try to place cushions on them as often as possible to protect part of them from the elements. By following these simple guidelines, you can enjoy the service of your outdoor wicker furniture for many years to come.

What do you think about when you talk about beds? Some say coziness, while others say rest. Well, whichever of these words come to mind, one thing is for certain: comfort remains the one overriding criterion in a person’s choice of what type of modern platform bed to buy. It’s only natural since the bed is the furniture on which you recover strength for the day ahead.
Breakthroughs in technology are paving the way for furniture makers and designers to place comfort above all other concerns in manufacturing beds. However, this doesn’t imply that modern beds are bereft of other endearing aspects. Today’s breed of beds is modest yet exquisite in mien with distinct qualities of contemporary furniture. These beds are also built tough but not at the expense of comfort.
The modern bed is a stark contrast to its predecessors that severely relied on box springs to support the mattress and, of course, the weight of the person using the bed. Contemporary beds are built similarly but lack the added box spring that most beds have. Instead of springs, the modern bed uses wooden or metal slats withing the platform bed frame to support the mattress.
A few modern bed designs are borrowed from Asian sources. Japanese platform beds are the perfect examples. This class of bed has, as its name implies, a platform that is wider than the mattress it supports. This means that there is some space left near the edges of the platform that could be used as extra seating if one chose to do so. The bed’s platform is only a few inches from the ground making it easier to climb into.
There are some modern beds, which include Japanese platform beds, that have storage spaces built into their base, while other models have small drawers in the foot-boards and headboards. Dubbed storage platform beds, this type of platform bed is not to be confused with trundle beds despite being in the same family. It should also be noted that these beds do not necessarily always come with a headboard or foot-board.
For more spacious bedrooms, it is advised that you purchase a larger bed. A queen platform bed comes to mind. This size of bed can adequately accommodate a couple with room to spare. However, the bigger size of the bed does not necessarily mean that it looks any less beautiful.

If you’ve seen a lot of Japanese movies, especially the old ones, you may not know it but you’ve probably encountered Shoji Screens before. They are Japanese panels that are made from rice paper which lends to the extreme lightness. One would surely be a beautiful piece for any home.
If you need privacy, then Shoji screens will surely do the trick for you. Not only that, they will inspire you with their beautiful and authentic Asian designs. There are those that are made to have the oriental look from square one. There are those that resemble the windows of the Spanish era while others are painted with flowers to give it a more “Nihon” feel.
When positioned properly Shoji screens diffuse light from within a room. They have a dimming effect since the rice paper regulates the passage of light. You can also get these partitions in different colors. Most of the time, especially if you’re in Japan, they are used as doors for traditional homes and at times even at temples.
They’re not only used as doors though. Shoji room dividers have other uses. Let’s say you have a dining area and a lounge. If there are no partitions in the area, you can use it to divide the two places. It’s more of a wall than a door to be honest. Usually, shoji screens are movable, so placing them in spots that you like should be pretty easy. Just be careful with carrying them because they tend to be a little fragile.
And because Shoji room dividers are crafted from paper, tares are sometimes unavoidable. If one get a hole put in it, a patch job is always a possible solution. Using the same kind of paper will help in making the damage undetectable. If you don’t have the same kind of paper tough, you can always use normal ones, and to make it even prettier you can cut different designs for the patch work. It can be enjoyable too if you are an arts and crafts person.
Japanese room dividers by Tansu are beautiful, that’s a given. You can do so many things to them in order to make your house even more elegant. It can serve as a standalone focal piece when used as a door. And you can also decorate it if ever you feel like it’s too plain. Let your imagination drive you to an even more beautiful partition.
